THIBODAUX, La. - Head women's track and field and cross country coach Scott Williamson announced the signing of six student-athletes for the 2007-08 campaign.

"I am excited to have quality individuals in the program that will represent the university to the best of their ability," said Williamson. "Not only do they excel when they compete, but they are very well-rounded in the classroom as well."

Of the signees, Marion Chebet is the lone foreigner hailing from Eldoret, Kenya, and comes to Nicholls by way of the University of Wyoming. Chebet is a middle distance runner who will also compete for Nicholls in cross country. At Wyoming, she posted a personal best in the 5000m of 18:13.80, while also posting career highs in the 800m with a 2:16.50, and in the 400m with a 56.80 showing.

The only other transfer in the 2007-08 signing class is Neisha Peterson from Cowley Community College. Peterson, who is originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, qualified for the NJCAA National Meet in the Heptathlon, and placed sixth at the NJCAA Indoor Nationals in the Penthalon. She was also a member of the 4x400 conference championship team.

Amy Tatreau joins the Colonels from North Cobb, Georgia where she competed for North Cobb High School. At North Cobb, she posted a career best 20:50.74 time in the 5000m run, and looks to be a middle distance runner for the Colonels. Another prep standout joining the Colonels is April Piper from Pineville High School in Alexandria, Louisiana. Piper placed second in the Louisiana's class 4A 100m hurdles and second in the high jump.

Alycia Johnson also will suit up for the Colonels in 2007-08, and is a native of Houma, Louisiana. While prepping at Vandebilt Catholic, Johnson posted personal bests of 12.15 in to 100m and a 25.95 mark in the 200m. She is set to be an asset to the sprint squad in the upcoming season.

Also joining the Colonels will be Elizabeth Paschall of Irving, Texas. Paschall prepped at Irving High School, and ran all races from the 100m to the 400m in her tenure there. She was on the 4x400 relay team that placed fourth in the Texas State Class 5A Championships. She has posted career bests on 11.83 in the 100m, 25.20 in the 200m, and 57.45 in the 400m.
