THIBODAUX, La. - After breaking even last week in the opening week of Southland play, the Colonels volleyball team will take on Southeastern, looking to improve to 2-1 early in the conference schedule. Southeastern (6-5, 0-2) enter tonight's match after dropping two home matches to the first and second place teams Lamar and McNeese last weekend. Both games were three set losses in dominating fashion. Lauren Mayer leads the team in kills with 77 on the year and is second on the team in assists with 124, and is followed by Emily Jordan with 75. The Colonels looked like two different teams last weekend against the Cardinals and Cowgirls. Against Lamar, Nicholls was unable to exploit a weakness in the Lamar game, and allowed the Cardinals to get too far ahead and gain too much momentum for the team to overcome in the three-set loss. Against McNeese, the Colonels looked like a team set on making a statement, and unfortunately for McNeese, they were the target. McNeese, who took both games from Nicholls last year, played well early, but after losing an extra-point first set, didn't look like the same team, and Nicholls played on that. Senior Aaliyah Muhammad had one of the best statistical games of her career with 18 errorless kills on 21 attempts against the Cowgirls, while sophomore Rachel Spreen dominated the serve with six aces, with five in a row. Tonight's match against the Lady Lions is set for a 7 p.m. first serve in Stopher Gym. |
