October 21, 2006 THIBODAUX, La. - Texas-San Antonio was a little more than Nicholls could handle on Saturday afternoon, as the Roadrunners swept the Colonels, 30-19, 30-20, 30-18, at Stopher Gymnasium.
Atina Porter led Nicholls with 10 kills and four blocks. Enjoli Ford contributed 11 digs. Meagan Daniel recorded 14 kills for UTSA. Brittany Hildebrand and Connie Picard had 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
In the first set, the Roadrunners jumped out to a quick 11-3 lead, before seeing the Colonels go on a 10-5 run, to cut the deficit to 16-13. However, UTSA answered with a 9-2 run, to extend their lead to 25-15, en route to taking the opening set, 30-19.
The second set saw Nicholls hold an early 9-6 lead until the Roadrunners came back to tie the score at 12-12. After both teams traded the next two points, UTSA went on a 7-0 run to take a 20-13 advantage. The Colonels would not get any closer than five points for the remainder of the set, as the Roadrunners took a 30-20, second-set victory.
UTSA continued to make the huge runs in the third set, as they opened up to an 8-3 lead. Nicholls closed the gap to 13-10, but the Roadrunners would not lead by less than four points the rest of the way, completing the three-set sweep, 30-18.
The Colonels return to action on Tuesday, as they host in-state rival, Southeastern Louisiana, at 7 p.m. at Stopher Gymnasium. In the last meeting between the two teams, Nicholls swept the Lions in Hammond.
