January 30, 2007 THIBODAUX, La. - Due to rain on Saturday, both the men's and women's contest at Xavier University were cancelled. The women picked up action on Sunday at Southern Miss, and lost 5-to-2 in hard fought matches.
"I was proud with the way they played on Sunday," said head coach Jim Hunter. "We are improving each and every set, and are getting better with every serve."
Nicholls' Celine Stegner went the distance against USM's Sherry Price to give the Lady Colonels her first win in singles competition. Stegner defeated Price 6-7(2), 6-4, 10-4. Karlyn Sissingh also made strides in the game against as she hammered Southern Mississippi's Grace Kammerer 6-1, 6-4.
Both men's and women's matches against Xavier, La. will not be made up.
