PARSONS SIGNS FOUR IN EARLY SIGNING PERIOD

THIBODAUX, La. - Head softball coach Jenny Parsons announced the signing of four players to national letters of intent on Wednesday morning with two from Louisiana, one from Texas, and one foreign player from the Netherlands.

All four of the signees will suit up for the Colonels in the 2008-09 season.

"I am extremely happy with my signing class," said Parsons. "The four that we signed were the top four on all of our coaches' lists, and we are excited to have them join our program."

The four signees are Logan Johnson from Dutchtown High in Gonzales, La., Laine Strickland from McNeil High in Austin, Tex., Tsade Joubert from Peter Suyvesant College in Curacao, Netherlands Antilles, and Kayla Watterson from Westgate High in New Iberia, La.

Below is a shot biography and list of accolades of all the signees.

Logan Johnson - Dutchtown High School, Gonzalez, La. Catcher

Batted .333 with eight homeruns and 32 RBIs at Dutchtown High her junior season, and also played on the Voodoo and Patriots summer teams. Johnson was First Team All-State, First Team All-Metro, First Team All-Ascension Parish, and First Team All-District at catcher her junior season.

Laine Strickland - McNeil High School, Austin, Tex. Outfielder

Was a prominent member of the McNeil High 2007 Bi-District Championship team, and was an All-State Honorable Mention candidate in 2006. In the 2007 season, Strickland was named to the First Team All-Academic Squad in 2006. She also played summer league ball with the Texas Stix Gold.

Kayla Watterson - Westgate High, New Iberia, La. Third Base/First Base

Watterson was a power hitter for Westgate High last season, and a solid middle of the lineup hitter that plays sound defense. Was named All-District with a batting .372 batting average and eight homeruns her junior season. She was an All-District honorable mention selection her freshman and sophomore campaigns as well.

Tsade Joubert - Peter Suyvesant College, Curacao, Netherland Antilles Short stop/Second Base

Joubert plays shortstop for the Curacao National Team that competes in many national tournaments in the Netherlands. She is very fast on the bases, and boasts a solid glove in the middle infield. Brings a wealth of international experience to the program.
