SOCCER DROPS SLC OPENER TO LIONS, 6-0

HAMMOND, La. - The Nicholls soccer team dropped their Southland Conference opener to Southeastern Louisiana, 6-0, Friday afternoon in Hammond.

The Colonels fell to 2-7-1 overall and 0-1 in the SLC, while the Lions improved to 6-2-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

Nicholls finished the match with five shot, three coming on goal. Southeastern was led by Danielle Shank's three goals and one assist.

Southeastern's first goal came in the 24th minute on a Lindsey Dyck goal.

The Lions added another goal before half when Shank netted her first of three consecutive goals, in the 33rd minute.

Coming out of halftime, Shank's second and third goals came just nine minutes apart, giving Southeastern a 4-0 lead after 60 minutes of play.

The Lions padded their lead with two additional goals later in the match to cruise to the 6-0 conference-opening win.

The Colonels will return to action on Sunday, when they step out of conference to take on Southern University at 5 p.m. in Baton Rouge.
