THIBODAUX, La. - The Lady Colonels will kickoff their 2007-08 season at home in Stopher Gym against in-state and NAIA member Dillard on Tuesday night at 5:30 p.m. The men's contest against Huston-Tillotson at 7:30 p.m. will proceed the women's game. "I'm very excited to play our first game of the season at home. I know that the team and the coaching staff is looking forward to a promising season," said head coach Mark Cook. The Lady Colonels finished last season with an overall record of 7-20 and had a 5-11 conference mark in 2006-07. Nicholls will be without Jaime Octave and Claire Barry on the court this season with both exhausting their eligibility, but Barry will return this season in a supporting role as an assistant coach. Both Octave and Barry were two of three Lady Colonels to average double figures last season. The only other player to average double digits last season was Katherine Plummer, who returns for her senior campaign having closed out her 2006-07 season with a 29-point scoring effort at McNeese State. The only other senior on this year's squad is Kelli Johnson. Johnson only averaged 4.1 points per game last season, but did lead the team in three-point percentage with a 40.0 percent (22-of-55) rate. Dillard's squad features three seniors in Monique Reece, Loretta Martin, and Sandra Nweke. The Lady Blue Devils finished their 2006-07 campaign with a 6-23 record and a 5-13 league mark in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference. However, this season Dillard is off to a 3-0 start to their 2007-08 season. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. in Stopher Gym. The game will not be broadcasted, but live stats will be accessible though the Colonels website at http://geauxcolonels.cstv.com/sports/w-baskbl/sched/nist-w-baskbl-sched.html. ##### |
