Plainsmen Slam Northeast Nebraska

Nov. 20, 2006

Final Stats

The NJC basketball team slammed the Northeast Nebraska Hawks Friday night to open the Bank of Colorado Shootout. Eddie Trenkle's group moved to 5-0 on the season with a win that included several dunks for the highlight reel.

But NJC's pressure defense was the story as the Plainsmen held Northeast Nebraska to 34 percent shooting for the game. NJC also forced 20 turnovers and held Northeast Nebraska to 25 percent shooting from the three-point line.

The Plainsmen shot 64 percent in the first half and ran away with a 92-57 victory in the Bank of Colorado Event Center.

Scoring was spread across the roster for the Plainsmen as five players reached double-digits. Sophomore, point-guard Omar Leary passed out 10 assists to go along with his seven points.

Mike Dominguez and Troy Smith led the way with 13 points each. Dominguez drained three of the four three-pointers put up, and he also nabbed four steals.

LaTravis Turner had the hot hand early from the field, and the forward finished with 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting.

Shane Edwards dropped in 11 points while Rashad Austin contributed 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
