CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The University of Northern Colorado women's cross country team completed its 2005 season by finishing eighth at the Division I Independent Championships, held Saturday morning at West Guth Park and hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The host Islanders claimed the team title, edging South Dakota State by a lone point. IPFW was third, defending champion UC Davis fourth, Utah Valley State finished fifth, Texas-Pan American sixth and North Dakota State seventh. Longwood finished ninth, one place behind the Bears. Individually, senior Lacey Darien completed her career by being the Bears top finisher, placing 35th overall (18:44.38). Senior Tara Hettler led a pack of five UNC runners who finished eight spots apart, finishing 42nd (18:56.02). Behind her were Amy Brons (19:10.94) in 44th, Ashley Grams (19:10.94) in 46th, Angela Kitchens in 47th (19:14.16) and Chantelle Erickson in 49th place (19:20.77). Emily Watz finished 63rd (22:34.88). South Dakota State had the top two runners in the event, as Becka Mansheim claimed the individual title (17:07.44) and Katie Tornberg (17:20.86) was second. Northern Colorado Finishes 35.
