CHARLOTTE, NC - Three women's tennis players received awards at the 49ers Annual All-Sports Banquet in the middle of April. Freshman Kathy Robey was named women's tennis team MVP after her record-setting freshman season. Sophomore Ashleigh Murray was awarded the Wendi Cook Memorial Award. Junior Jennifer Hatch received the Bonnie Cone Award. Those three players and the rest of the women's tennis team enjoyed a very successful season where they won 14 matches and finished a program-best sixth in Conference USA.
Robey tied the program's single-season wins record with her 24 singles victories. She collected her 24th victory in the 49ers 4-1 win over Marquette in the Conference USA Tournament, April 17. Robey paired with sophomore Ofra Friedman to capture 19 doubles victories for the season, which ties them for the seventh highest single-season doubles wins in the program's history.
Murray received the Wendi Cook Memorial Award. This award is presented to the player that exhibits Cook's love for the sport and her teammates. Murray was part of the 49ers number one doubles team. She teamed with Laura Swain to record 21 doubles wins which is the third highest single-season total in school history. Murray also recorded 18 singles wins mostly at number three singles.
For the second straight year, Hatch received the Bonnie Cone Award, which is given to the female student-athlete with the highest GPA for the school year. Hatch has a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA in Civil Engineering. Hatch reached double-figure singles wins for the third straight season with 10 singles victories this past season.
