BLACKSBURG, VA - The Charlotte 49ers women's tennis team notched their first win of the season, 7-0, over Big East foe Pittsburgh at Virginia Tech. With the win, Charlotte improves to 1-1 on the season.
The 49ers won all six singles matches. They won five of them in straight sets. In number one singles, Charlotte's Laura Swain defeated Pittsburgh's Jill Williams, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3). In number two singles, Charlotte's Lindsay Morris defeated Pittsburgh's Nikki Borza, 6-1, 6-3. In number three singles, Charlotte's Ashleigh Murray defeated Pittsburgh's Laura Pegula, 6-4, 6-3. In number four singles, Charlotte's Marilyn Clark defeated Pittsburgh's Becky Emmers, 6-2, 6-3. In number five singles, Charlotte's Jennifer Hatch defeated Pittsburgh's Hayley Hughes, 6-7 (7-4), 6-3, 10-5. In number six singles, Charlotte's Megan Bullins defeated Pittsburgh's Jena Fiore, 6-2, 6-3.
The 49ers won all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point In number one doubles, Charlotte's Murray and Swain defeated Pittsburgh's Pegula and Williams, 8-1. In number two singles, Charlotte's Hatch and Morris defeated Pittsburgh's Emily Hughes and Hayley Hughes, 8-1. In number three doubles, Charlotte's Courtney Clifford and Clark defeated Pittsburgh's Borza and Fiore, 8-3.
The 49ers return to action at Clemson, Saturday, February 8 at 10:30 am.
