Freshman Midfielder Sam Huecker Named Atlantic 10 Player and Rookie of the Week

Four Goals on the Weekend Earn Conference Honors

Oct. 15, 2007

Charlotte, N.C. - After scoring four goals of Charlotte's five goals over the weekend, freshman midfielder Sam Huecker (Crestwood, Ky./Oldham County H.S.) of the women's soccer team was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, marking the third and fourth time this season a 49er has garnered weekly honors. Senior midfielder Lindsey Ozimek (Oct. 1) and freshman forward Whitney Weinraub (Sept. 4) were named player of the week and rookie of the week, respectively, thus far in the 2007 campaign.

Huecker scored a pair of goals in the 49ers' 3-0 shutout of George Washington Friday evening in the 83rd and 85th minute. On Sunday, she returned to Transamerica Field to tally both Charlotte goals versus Richmond, including her first game-winning goal, which allowed the 49ers to stifle the Spiders 2-1 in overtime. In the two matches, she posted nine shots.

Currently, Huecker is ranked second on the team with 15 points behind Ozimek (18 points).

The 49ers return to action this weekend on a conference road trip, taking on Xavier and Dayton Friday and Saturday, respectively.
