Box Score

CHARLOTTE - On Friday evening, the Charlotte 49ers rebounded from an early deficit to tie the Billikens of Saint Louis, 2-2. In only their third overtime match of the season, the 49ers overcame two first half goals by Saint Louis for the tie.

Freshman defender Megan Terlip (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) and sophomore midfielder Abbie Allison (High Point, N.C./SW Guilford) passed the ball among themselves before Terlip ripped a shot past Saint Louis keeper Meghann Burke for her first career and game-tying goal at 54:57 from just outside the penalty area.

Just before the end of the first half, at 41:01, sophomore midfielder Lindsay Duncan (Lilburn, Ga./Providence Christian Academy) knocked in a rebound off the hands of Burke, that was originally saved on a shot from freshman forward Christy Johnson (Jacksonville, N.C./Jacksonville). Duncan's goal was her first of the season and brought the 49ers within one goal.

Previously, Saint Louis had scored two goals in less than two minutes in the first half. Tressa Pecher fed Jamie Perry near the endline before Perry sent a shot past 49er keeper Jenn Howell (Marietta, Ga./McEachern) from a near impossible angle short-side for the first goal of the match at 22:31. On a loose ball near the edge of the penalty box, Erin Schwetye found Anny Lucier, who thread a shot through the Niner defense to put the Billikens up 2-0 at 24:10.

With the tie, Charlotte moves within one point for the top seed in the upcoming Conference USA Tournament in Milwaukee, Wis., Nov. 7-10. Charlotte currently has 11 points based on their league record of 5-1-1, one point behind league co-leaders Cincinnati and Marquette. According to league rules, each team receives two points for a win and one for tie, while receiving none for a loss. The 49ers overall record now stands at 7-4-3. The Billikens' record is 6-6-1, 3-3-1 in C-USA action for seven points.

Charlotte will next play at Wake Forest on Tuesday, October 23 before returning home next weekend for the final two home matches of the season versus league co-leader Cincinnati on Friday evening, October 26 and versus Louisville on October 28. The Louisville match on Sunday will also be Senior Day, as the 49ers will recognize the accomplishments of senior Dawn Geyer (Bellbrook, Ohio/Alter).
