KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Charlotte 49ers women's basketball wrapped up their season Sunday, rallying from a 15-point deficit before falling in overtime, 85-83, at Western Michigan in the second round of the WNIT. It was the second-straight trip to the postseason for the 49ers.
Charlotte (17-14) fell behind by as many as 15 in the early minutes of the second half before battling back to tie the game at 68-68 on an Andrea Davidson free throw with 2:19 to play. The Niners hit four of their 10 three-pointers during the rally, including three from Leslie Cook. Cook had a chance to win at the buzzer, but her attempt from behind the arc did not fall. In overtime the 49ers took a 75-73 lead on LaShanta Johnson's bucket at the 4:47 mark, but quickly fell behind six, 81-75, with 2:17 to play. They battled back again, tying the game a 83 on a Sakellie Daniels basket with 33 seconds to go before Lori Crisman hit the game winner with 18 ticks left on the clock.
Even with 10 threes, the game was decided at the free throw line, where Western Michigan (19-12) attempted 27 more shots. The Broncos were 25-for-33, while the 49ers converted five of their seven attempts.
Cook finished the game with a team-best 19 points. Three other players scored in double figures for the 49ers. Pam Brown added 17, while Sakellie Daniels and Andrea Davidson added 14 each.
Carrie Moore led Western with a game-high 24 points. Crisman added 20, knocking down 12-of-16 from the line.
