Charlotte, NC - Five Charlotte men's soccer players earn All-Atlantic 10 honors. Senior defender Evan Harding (Matthews, NC/East Mecklenburg) earned first-team All-Atlantic 10 honors. While, senior midfielders Pete Palomino (San Antonio, TX/Tom C. Clark) and Michael Rose (Mansfield, TX/Mansfield) earned second team All-Atlantic 10 honors. Freshmen forward Andre Lee (Montego Bay, Jamaica/Cornwall College) and goalkeeper David Martin (Timnath, CO/Fort Collins) were named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team.
Harding, a team tri-captain, earned second-team All-Atlantic 10 honors last season. The 49er have now had a defender earn all-conference honors for 11 straight seasons. Harding is currently tied for fourth on the team with three goals. He also leads a 49ers defense that has recorded six shutouts and limited 12 foes to a goal or less.
Palomino, a team tri-captain, is tied for second on the team with a career-high four goals. He has scored game-winning goals against UNC Asheville, La Salle and St. Bonaventure this season. In the St. Bonaventure game, he collected his career multiple goal game when he scored the 49ers first two goals in his final regular season home game..
Rose leads the 49ers and ranks among the league leaders with a career-high five goals, seven assists and 17 points. He scored two goals against Appalachian State and Saint Joseph's. He also leads the team with 49 shots.
Rose, who has a 3.4 GPA in biology, was named to the A-10 academic all-conference team.
Lee and Martin become the 16th and 17th different players in school history to earn league all-freshman team honors in school history.
Lee was named A-10 Rookie of the Week earlier this season after he scored his first career goal which proved to be the game-winner in the 49ers 1-0 win at Temple. He has also tallied three assists this season.
Martin has been a stalwart for the 49ers this season. He has recorded six shutouts and has only allowed 13 goals in over 1300 minutes of action this season. He ranks among the league leaders with a 0.88 goals against average.
Harding, Lee, Martin, Palomino, Rose and the rest of the 49ers men's soccer team open Atlantic 10 Tournament play against Duquesne at Transamerica Field, Thursday, November 2 at 7:30 pm.
