Two Men's Soccer Players Garner C-USA Player of the Week Honors

Josh Beachem named Defensive Player of the Week; Adam Ruud named Co-Offensive Player of the Week

Oct. 4, 2004

Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte 49ers men's soccer program swept this week's Conference USA Player of the Week honors for their efforts in the team's 2-0 win at Saint Louis. Junior forward Adam Ruud was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week, while junior goalkeeper Josh Beachem earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Ruud and Beachem become the 11th different Charlotte men's soccer player to garner C-USA player of the week honors. Lucas Mackanos was the last 49er to be named men's soccer player of the week when he earned defensive player of the week honors, October 14, 2002.

Ruud scored both of Charlotte's goals in their 2-0 victory at preseason C-USA favorite Saint Louis. He scored a goal in each half. Ruud's two goals increased his team-leading total to six for the season, which moved him into a tie for third place in C-USA in goals.

Beachem recorded his first career shutout in helping the 49ers win their first Conference USA game of the season with a road victory at Saint Louis. Beachem's shutout was the first of his career and marked the first for the 49ers since a 1-0 shutout of nationally ranked Cincinnati in the 2003 C-USA Tournament semifinals. He tallied a season-high seven saves in the shutout.

Ruud, Beachem and the rest of the 49ers hope to continue their winning ways with Conference USA games at East Carolina, Wednesday, October 6 and at home against Cincinnati, Saturday, October 9 at 7 pm.
