Senior defender Joe Lampert Named Team MVP

Senior midfielder David Costa was awarded the program's David Schlee Award

CHARLOTTE, NC - The 2003 49ers Men's Soccer MVP Award and the David Schlee Memorial Award were presented at the Charlotte 49ers Annual All-Sports Banquet. Senior defender Joe Lampert was named Team MVP. While, senior midfielder David Costa was honored with the David Schlee Award.

Lampert was named the team MVP. Lampert was named to the 2003 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association University Division All-State men's soccer team after earning All-Conference USA Tournament honors after leading the 49ers to the title game of the Conference USA Tournament. As a defender, Lampert scored three goals this season, including one against #6 Saint Louis in the C-USA Tournament final. As a junior, Lampert was a leader in the back and was named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week (October 28) and well as being named to Soccer America's Team of the Week.

Costa received the David Schlee Award. This award is presented to the player that best exemplifies Schlee's desire to succeed. Costa was a great team player who always worked hard and gave a 100 percent effort every time he stepped onto the field for the 49ers. He played in 12 games last season and recorded five shots. He recorded his first career goal as a junior against Radford.
