Charlotte, N.C. - Freshman Corey Nagy continued his hot play this spring with a two round 140 to lead Charlotte into a share of first-place heading into Tuesday's final round of the Palisades Collegiate Classic at Palisades Country Club. With four players shooting under par, the 49ers share first-place with Southeastern Louisiana at -13, 563, eight strokes ahead of third-place UT-Chattanooga, Louisville and Mississippi.
Nagy's two-roun score of -4 is good for fifth individually. SE Louisiana's Matthew Carvell holds the individual lead at -7, 137 (67-70). Three players are tied for second, two strokes back at -5, 139.
#23 Charlotte, Louisville (-5, 571) and Lamar (+7, 583) came into the event ranked in the nation's top 25.
Charlotte's Andrew DiBitetto and Stefan Weidergruen are both at -3, 141 after the first two rounds. Jonas Enander Hedin stands at -1, 143 and Trevor Murphy rounds out the Niners lineup at +4, 148.
"I'm very pleased with how our guys played throughout the day," said 49ers head coach Jamie Green. "You play two rounds in a day and it's a marathon. There were lots of birdies to be made but the scores are not quite as low as you might expect because of some very challenging hole locations and the course was firm from tee to green.
"In the last two tournaments, Corey has really gotten off to a fantastic start. I'm looking forward to he and the rest of the guys accepting the challenge, tomorrow. We're looking forward to taking advantage of everything the golf course gives us."
