The renovations for Tom and Lib Phillips Field, the home of the Charlotte
49ers' baseball team began June 30. The current playing surface is being
completely overhauled.
First, the current outfield grass has completely been removed. Once
complete, the field will be laser leveled and a new drainage system will be
installed. Sod will then be installed with Bermuda grass as the playing
surface. Finally, the warning track and infield area will be refurbished.
The project should take about two months and it will complete in time for
fall practice in early September.
