CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Maryland's women's cross country team placed each of its top three relay tandems in the top 10 to edge UNC Asheville, 20-25, and give the Terrapins a sweep of the Charlotte 49ers Relays, Saturday at McAlpine Park. UNC Asheville claimed the top two pairings in the women's event but Maryland was able to nab the top overall team score. In the men's event, Maryland had the top two tandems in grabbing the team title. Maryland finished with nine points to outdistance runner-up Charlotte, which had 27 points.

In the men's race, Maryland's top two teams finished nearly a minute before the rest of the field and a Terrrapin tandem also placed sixth to easily give Maryland the title with just nine points. Charlotte's top pairing of Jamil Muhaiman and Russell Slade placed third (32:38) and the team of Andrew Manning and Alex Stewart placed ninth (33:23) to help the 49ers to the runner-up finish.

UNC Asheville had the top two teams in the women's event, but Maryland's third, eighth and ninth place finishes were enough to claim the overall title. Charlotte's top team of Amelia Slagle and Tsehaye Dagnachew placed seventh (22:10) to cop a top 10 finish.

The relay event pairs teammates, with both runners completing one leg (M: 5K; W: 3K) of the course.
