Charlotte, N.C. - Charlotte 49ers head volleyball coach Lisa Marston announced today the hiring of J. Chapman as assistant coach.
Chapman, who begins his duties at Charlotte on July 1, will use his expertise in video software programs to assist the Niners staff in match play analysis, opponent scouting and team/player video analysis.
"J. has extensive experience with video editing software," said coach Marston. "He is very enthusiastic about making coaching a career, and being from Kings Mountain it was a perfect fit. I'm looking forward to him being a positive asset to our program."
Chapman graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in December, 2005 with bachelor's degrees in Exercise & Sports Science and Political Science. While a student there, he played for the men's club volleyball team as both a setter and libero. The team was rated as high as #4 on the club AA level in his final season.
J. also served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Tar Heels' women's varsity team and was a manager for the team for four seasons. In that capacity, Chapman assisted with on-court practices, team travel, and video systems and analysis. Chapman is head coach of the Triangle Volleyball Club in Raleigh.
"I am extremely excited to be working with Lisa and the Charlotte volleyball program," said Chapman. "The University and the city of Charlotte has so much to offer and this is a great opportunity to be part of its growing success."
The Charlotte 49ers volleyball program advanced to the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament last season, their first in the league. The 2004 and 2005 combined win total represented the best two-year span for the program since 1993-94. Head coach Lisa Marston will enter her seventh season as Charlotte's head coach in the fall, and will be assisted by third-year coach Jen Adeva as well as Chapman.
