Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers finished their regular season home volleyball slate and honored their seniors by dispatching the Fordham Rams 3-0 (30-24, 30-26, 30-21) on Friday night at Halton Arena in Atlantic 10 play. Charlotte, which had tenuous tournament qualification hopes coming into this week, has made a surge by winning both weeknight matches, including a five-game result Thursday, to produce a 15-12 overall record and 5-7 A-10 mark. Fordham drops to 12-18 overall, 3-7 in league play.
Charlotte finished 10-3 at home in 2007 and has established a stranglehold on the fifth of six playoff spots into the A-10 Tournament, depending on other weekend results.
"I am very excited that we played two back to back solid matches and did not have a let down after a five-game war against George Washington last night," said Niners head coach Chris Redding. "One of our keys to success was to serve and pass the ball better. Our balanced offense is helping us along and helping us compete at a high level."
Charlotte hit for a .306 attack percentage in the match, their best conference outing of the season.
In game one, the Niners slowly built a seven-point margin, to lead at 14-7. Cori Dayton had a pair of early kills, while Alma Arroyo doled out the game-high seven kills in the frame. She hit .556 in the opening period.
In game two, Charlotte outhit the Rams .308 to .171, though the game was much closer. The largest margin in the second frame was just four points, not achieved by Charlotte until a 29-25 edge and the final 30-26 total. Neither team served more than three times in a row during that second period.
Game three saw the Niners outhit the Rams again, by a .333 to .128 percentage. With Charlotte trailing 7-6, Dayton logged a pair of kills and Arroyo added another as Charlotte scored four straight points to take a 10-7 lead, one that they would not again relinquish.

The Rams were led in kills by sophomore Jolanda Gunning-Snowden's eight kills. Libero Stephanie Frost has a team-high 13 digs, while setter Katherine Burrell dished out 33 assists.
After the match, the 49ers honored outgoing seniors Arroyo, Claire Crumpton, Dayton and Ramos.
"Our seniors went out and took care of Fordham first and enjoyed Senior Night second, which made me very proud of them," said Redding.
The Niners finish the regular season next Friday night at George Washington in a 7 p.m. match.
