GREENVILLE, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers volleyball team came up short at East Carolina Tuesday night, falling to the Pirates, 3-2, at Minges Coliseum. It was the 49ers' seventh straight loss.

Amanda Rudolph led East Carolina (3-13, 1-6 C-USA) with 16 kills and 19 digs. Courtney Burg was the top hitter for Charlotte (7-9, 1-6) with 21 kills and 11 digs.

The Pirates took a 1-0 lead in the match, winning game one, 30-23. East Carolina took advantage of six service aces. They held onto the momentum for much of game two before the 49ers mounted a rally. Trailing 20-11, Charlotte scored 11 straight points to retake the lead, 22-20. Megan Mosness and Ashley Ferris capped the Niners' run, teaming up on a block. The Pirates used the long break between games to regroup and won the third game, 30-22. The Niners pulled to within five, 24-19, but were unable to complete the comeback. Charlotte came back to tie the match with a 30-25 win in game four. Both teams traded the lead in game five, but East Carolina pulled out the win with a 15-9 victory to clinch the match.

Charlotte finally returns home this weekend, hosting South Florida Friday night and UAB Saturday night. Both matches begin at 7:00. Admission is $3 for adults, while youth 17-and-under and Charlotte students are admitted free.
