Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers volleyball team moved to 3-1 in Atlantic 10 play by sweeping La Salle on Sunday afternoon at Halton Arena. The 49ers won by scores of 30-21, 30-26, and 30-21.
Charlotte (9-10, 3-1 A-10) won for the third straight time, including a pair of A-10 matches this weekend. The 49ers defeated East Division rival Temple on Friday night, 3-2.
On Sunday, sophomore Alma Arroyo led the way with 16 kills and a pair of service aces. Senior Abbey Szlanfucht had nine kills, 13 digs and five block assists, while Lisa Newell had eight kills on .348 hitting.
Libero Carly Romberg led all players with 16 digs, adding a pair of service aces.
Charlotte setter Eden Ramos had 32 assists and 12 digs for her second double-double in row and third in the four A-10 matches this year. The sophomore did a great job directing the 49ers offense in their 3-0 week, averaging 12.91 assists and 3.18 digs per game. She also dropped in six kills.
For La Salle (6-11, 0-5 A-10), Kristen Kelsey had 10 kills while libero Carolyn Judge dug a team-high 15 balls. The Explorers hit just .068 as a team in the match.
Charlotte does not play again until the weekend, when the team's five-match homestand continues at Halton Arena. On Friday (Oct. 7) the 49ers face Duquesne in an A-10 match at 7 p.m.. Familiar foe Saint Louis comes to Charlotte for an A-10 match on Sunday (Oct. 9) at 2 p.m.
