SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Charlotte 49ers' Derrick Johnson and Will Montgomery both brought home medals for the United States team at last week's North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) Championships. Johnson brought home the gold, anchoring the 4x100-meter relay team, and Montgomery earned silver with a second-place finish in the long jump.

Johnson, who will be a sophomore at Charlotte this season, helped the U.S. men to a 39.79-39.81 win over the Bahamas in the men's 4x100, with Johnson holding off Domonic Demeritte for the gold. He also competed in the 200-meter dash, where he was 14th in the prelims with a 21.97 time.

Montgomery, who completed his collegiate career this past season, was second in the long jump. He posted a lifetime best of 25'11", two inches better than his previous PR.

The 49ers' Koiyan Morlu also competed last week, representing Liberia in the 100 and 200 meters at the African Championships in Tunisia. He turned in a top time of 10.65 in the prelims of the 100 to advance to the semifinals, where he ran a 10.68. In the 200 meters, he posted times of 21.78 in the prelims and 22.00 in the semifinals.
