Indianapolis - The Charlotte 49ers track & field programs will close out a banner 2006 this week with their final meets of the season. All-American sprinters Shareese Woods and Courtney Patterson will be competing at the 2006 AT&T USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, while Lamarra Currie and Chase Eckard will compete at the 2006 Finish Line USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The meets are being held concurrently at IU Michael A. Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium on the campus of IUPUI in Indianapolis.
To run in the USATF Championships, athletes must be U.S. citizens, and as with NCAA competition must post a mark that meets or exceeds the pre-set USATF standards during 2006. Woods is qualified in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes, while Patterson will run in the 100.
For the Junior Championships, athletes must be at least 14 years old on the day of competition, but not turn 20 during 2006. Currie will compete in the junior women's 100-meter dash, with Eckard in the junior men's 800- and 1,500-meter runs.
ESPN2 will broadcast the final two days of the meets, Saturday (6:00-8:00 p.m.) and Sunday (5:00-7:00 p.m.).
Woods and Patterson will be running against some of the world's best sprinters in the USATF Championships, including names that will be familiar to many fans.
