Woods Finishes Seventh in USATF 200m Dash Finals

Charlotte Senior Was Top Collegiate Runner in Final Race of College Career

June 24, 2007

Indianapolis, Ind. - Charlotte senior sprinter Shareese Woods nearly broke her own school record with a 22.82-second run to finish seventh in the finals of the USA Track and Field Nationals at the Michael A. Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium, at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis Sunday.

Earlier in the day, Woods finished fourth in her semifinal race to qualify for the finals. She had the seventh-fastest time of all eight eventual qualifiers with a 22.93-second time in the first semifinal heat. Woods ran the sixth-fastest time in the preliminary races Friday, coming in at 23.35 seconds.

She was only one of two collegians in the finals and was the top collegiate finisher in the race. Woods was less than half a second from the race winner, Allyson Felix, who was running for her Adidas professional team.

It marks the final race of Woods' collegiate career as she ponders her options for a professional career in the near future.

Woods came close to her school-record time of 22.74 seconds that she set two weeks ago at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in California. She has broken the 200m time for Charlotte three times in the last three weeks.

Woods won her school-record fourth All-America award after the NCAA Championships and was the 2007 Indoor and Outdoor Atlantic 10 Most Outstanding Female Track Performer.
