Men Finish Second At C-USA Indoors, Women Eighth

The men posted three second-place finishes on Saturday, while the women had a pair of third-place showings.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Charlotte 49ers men's team came up short in their bid for a second-straight Conference USA indoor title, finishing second at the league championships on Saturday. The 49ers' women placed eighth.

The men, who began the day in first, posted a two-day total of 120.5 points. TCU won the men's championship with 133 points. Charlotte had three post runner-up finishes on Saturday. Twann Atkins placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.07 seconds. Adam Evans who won the 400 last season, was second in that event this year with a 48.24 time. Finally, Matt Rausch finished second in the shot put. He threw for 56'1.25". Derrick Johnson broke the 49ers' record in the 200 meters, running a 21.76 to finish fifth.

The women's team more than doubled their point total on the second day, finishing with 34 points. Houston won the championship with 107 points. Adrienne Barnette had on of the strongest showings for the women, capturing third place in the high jump with a height of 5'6". Amber Reddick also notched a third-place finish Saturday, turning a distance of 39'3" in the triple jump.

The 49ers compete in their final meet before the USA Track and Field Championships and NCAA Championships on Wednesday, Feb. 27. They will compete at North Carolina's Last Chance Qualifier in Chapel Hill.
