CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers indoor track and field teams ran for the first time in 2002 at the North Carolina Five-Team Invitational this weekend in Chapel Hill. It was the teams' second meet of the season after they opened their campaigns at Appalachian State in December.

Adrienne Barnette had a strong showing on the women's side, posting a school record in the high jump with a mark of 5'7.75". She finished second in event while breaking her own record. Cassie Ficken also had a good meet, placing second in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:26.65. Her time would have ranked third for the 49ers last year.

Will Montgomery posted an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the long jump to lead the men's team. He won the event with a distance of 24'10". Former 49ers All-American Rephel Martin finished second to Montgomery and won the triple jump.

The Niners return to Chapel Hill this weekend to compete in the North Carolina 10-Team Invitational.
