An'Juan Wilderness
Men's Basketball
Freshman, 6-6 Guard/Forward
Dunwoody, Ga./Dunwoody H.S.
Charlotte 49ers 6-6 freshman forward An'Juan Wilderness has been named the Charlotte 49ers Athlete of the Week for the week ending Dec. 2.
Wilderness scored a game-high 21 points and added six rebounds in the 49ers 63-59 victory over Wake Forest, Thursday at Bobcats Arena. He hit 9-of-13 shots (.692) and nailed a pair of free throws with eight seconds left to help clinch the win. His 21-point total is a career-high and just the second 20-point effort turned in by a 49er, this year (Leemire Goldwire, 33 vs. App. State)
For his efforts, Wilderness was also named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week -- his first A-10 Rookie of the Week Award and the 49ers first weekly, league award, this season.
Two of Wilderness' points came on a reverse lay-up in which he spun around 360 degrees before completing the acrobatic basket. That play was selected as the #1 Play of the Day on ESPN's daily Top 10 countdown.
Wilderness has scored in double figures twice this season (17 vs. Georgia Tech; 21 s. Wake Forest) and he is shooting a team-best .545 from the field. He is now averaging 10.8 points and 4.7 rebounds.
