Navy Women Set for NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional

Freshman Emily Castro has been the top-Navy finisher in the last four meets.

Annapolis, Md. -- Navy women's cross country will compete at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional in Lock Haven, Pa., on Saturday for a chance to qualify for the 2003 NCAA Championship. Thirty-one teams and 38 individuals will qualify in the nine regional meets or be selected at-large on Monday.

The Mids earned a third-place finish at the Patriot League Championship on Nov. 1, giving Navy excellent momentum heading into the post-season. Four Mids earned all-league honors after finishing in the top-20, including freshmen Emily Castro (Centennial, Colo./Cherry Creek) and Allison Barlow (Orange Park, Fla./Clay) who both garnered first-team status with fifth and 10th-place finishes, respectively. Freshman Erin Demchko (Nanuet, N.Y./Pearl River) secured 13th place and senior Stephanie Patterson (Mayville, Mich./Mayville) took 14th place as the pair received second-team accolades. Freshman Juliann Jordan (Kaneohe, Hawai'i/Punahou) took 21st place to help the Mids claim third in the meet with 63 points.

Lock Haven University will host the Mid-Atlantic Regional as the Mids seek a berth to the NCAA Championship in Waterloo, Iowa on Monday, Nov. 24.
