Women's Cross Country to Take on Army
Links associated with this release: ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Oct. 18) - The Navy women's cross country team will play host to the Black Knights of Army Saturday at 11:30 am. The Midshipmen (5-0) are led by seniors Amy Baxter (Cheshire,Conn.) and Melissa Foon (Lexington, Ky.). Foon has had an outstanding season, scoring two first-place finishes and finishing in the top 10 in all four races in which she has competed. Baxter, the team captain, has had a strong season, as well. She has two top-five finishes, her highest finish was third at the Navy Fall Classic Sept. 9. She was the top finisher at Navy's most recent meet, the Pre-National Invitational, in Ames, Iowa. Baxter ran against top competition, running the 6000-meter course in 23:25.2 finishing in 190th out of 371 runners. Navy has also had some help from its younger runners. Junior Melanie Stock (Mechanicsburg, Pa.), sophomore Lisa Procaccini (Vienna, Va.) and freshman Abby Wilder (Lake Geneva, Wis.) have all stepped up and contributed. Stock has been a consistent runner for the Mids, with her best finish coming at the Navy Fall Classic where she took fifth. Procaccini has had some solid finishes, including a second-place finish at the dual meet vs George Mason. Wilder has had a strong first season for Navy. Her highest finish of the season came against George Mason where she finished third.
