Women's Track & Field Set to Kick Off Indoor Season By Playing Host to Navy Lidlifter Wednesday

Senior Katie Scotidas will serve as the captain of the 2004-05 Navy women's indoor track and field team.

Annapolis, Md. - The Navy women's indoor track and field team will kick off its 2004-05 season Wednesday by playing host to the Navy Lidlifter at Halsey Fieldhouse at 6 p.m.

The Mids will play host to American, Towson and Mount St. Mary's in a dual-team scoring format.

"We are excited to get the new season underway," said head coach Carla Criste, who is beginning her 14th season at Navy. "We have some newcomers who we are excited to see compete. They will have terrific upperclassmen to look up to this year."

The women's team will be led by senior indoor captain Katie Scotidas (Massapequa, N.Y.) Scotidas, who will compete in the hurdles and sprints this season, closed out the 2003-04 campaign in strong fashion by earning Second-Team All-Patriot League outdoor honors with second-place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles and as a member of Navy's 4x100-meter relay team at the conference championship.

"Katie is going to be a strong leader for us," Criste said. "She has a tremendous work ethic and I'm sure the younger athletes on our team will notice that this year."

Another veteran is senior Tineisha Davis (Madisonville, Ky.), who will serve as the outdoor captain in the spring. Davis was tabbed the Patriot League's Athlete of the Meet at the 2004 indoor championship. She earned the honor after winning the 500 meters for the second-straight season, posting a league championship-record time of 1:12.64 to win the event by over three seconds. Davis also won the 200 meters in a career-best time of 25.23 and anchored Navy's victorious 4x800m relay team.

"Tineisha had a tremendous season in 2003-04," Criste said. "She will be another positive influence on the team this season."

The Lidlifter will be the first of four home meets during the indoor and outdoor seasons. Navy will also play host to UNC-Wilmington, Robert Morris, VCU, William & Mary and Mount St. Mary's in an indoor meet on Jan. 15 at Halsey.

The Midshipmen have a pair of outdoor home meets as well. Navy will play host to American, Ohio, Colgate and Delaware to kick off the outdoor season on March 26 and will follow a week later on April 2, by playing host to service academy-foe Army in the Star Meet. All home outdoor meets are held at Ingram Field.
