Women's Track & Field Finishes Third at 2005 Patriot League Outdoor Championship
 Senior co-captain Tineisha Davis |
Easton, Pa. - The Navy women's track & field team finished in third place with 136.50 points at the 2005 Patriot League Outdoor Championship Saturday at Lafayette College in Easton, Pa.
The highlight of the day for Navy came from senior co-captain Tineisha Davis (Madisonville, Ky.), who was named the Athlete of the Meet by claiming gold in the 400 meters and anchoring Navy's victorious 4x400-meter relay team. It marked the second time in her career that Davis was named the Athlete of the Meet at the league championship. She also garnered the award at the 2004 indoor championship by winning the 200 and 500 meters and anchoring Navy's victorious 4x800-meter relay team.
"Tineisha was brilliant this whole weekend," Navy head coach Carla Criste said. "She's been brilliant her whole career. I'm very proud of her and excited for her winning this award."
Bucknell won the league championship with 209.50 points, while Army was runner up with 154 points.
Davis, on Saturday, posted a Patriot League-record time of 54.55 in the 400 meters to win the title. The old record of 55.59 was set by Davis last year as she won the event. Davis also teamed up with freshman Jessica Orr (New Holland, Pa.), freshman Taren Burkett (Virginia Beach, Va.) and freshman Vicki Moore (Burke, Va.) to post a winning time of 3:50.64 in the 4x400-meter relay. Davis, who was also a member of Navy's second-place finish in the 4x800-meter relay Friday night, also turned around Saturday and anchored the Midshipmen's second-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay (47.24).
The day was also special for three other mids who claimed gold at the championship. Senior co-captain Katie Scotidas (Massapequa, N.Y.) won her first Patriot League title, as she claimed gold in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.84. Scotidas had earned Second-Team All-Patriot League honors in the event last season as she placed second. Scotidas edged out sophomore Danielle Still (Lawnside, N.J.) in the event, as Still placed second with a time of 14.90. However, Still enjoyed being crowned champion on the day as she won the javelin with a throw of 146'6". Navy's other Patriot League champion on the day was sophomore Loni Forsythe (Chattanooga, Tenn.), who won the 100 meters with a time of 12.09. Forsythe also added to her day by placing second in the 200 meters (25.00).
"I'm so proud of Katie," Criste added. "Katie has been a terrific leader for the team this entire year and she deserved to win the championship in the 100 hurdles. Danielle had a great all-around competition at the league championship and it was great to see her win the javelin. Loni posted some great times in the 100 and 200 meters this weekend and I was glad to see her crowned champion in the 100."
Navy's other athlete to earn All-Patriot League recognition on the day was Moore, who placed second in the 800 meters in a time of 2:11.74.
All athletes placing among the top two of the individual events earn All-Patriot League honors.
