Navy Receives a Pair of Weekly Honors in the Pool
Nov. 14, 2006 CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- Navy's Thuy-Mi Dinh (Fr., Anaheim, Calif.) and Katie Griffin (Jr., Ellicott City, Md.) garnered weekly honors from the Patriot League Tuesday, with Dinh tabbed as the league's swimmer of the week and Griffin named as the diver of the week. Competing Nov. 11 in a double-dual meet against Bucknell and Lafayette, Dinh placed first against both schools in the 50 and 100 freestyle events. She posted times of 23.47 in winning the 50 free and 51.51 in winning the 100 free. Dinh also placed second to teammate Mallory Dietrich (Fr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) by less than four-tenths of a second in the 200 free. Her top performance of the day came as she swam the initial leg of Navy's victorious 200 free relay team. Dinh's clocking of 23.43 over her 50 yards not only broke the school record in the 50 free, besting the standard of 23.52 set by Tori Throckmorton nearly four years ago, but also was an NCAA 'B' cut qualifying time. Griffin continued her impressive 2006 season by winning both boards against the Bison and the Leopards. Her scores of 269.00 on the one meter and 283.60 on the three meter gave her a combined victory total of 84 points. This is already Griffin's third weekly honor from the league this season. Navy will compete this week in the Terrapin Cup Invitational, slated to run Thursday through Saturday on the Maryland campus. |
