Women's Swimming Plays Host to George Mason

The Navy women's swimming and diving team will continue its season-opening homestand Friday when the Midshipmen play host to George Mason at 4 p.m. in Lejeune Hall.

The Midshipmen have posted a 2-1 record on the young season after convincing victories over Lafayette and Rider last weekend. Navy totaled 10 individual event victories on the day, including multiple-event winners Jenn Windstein (So., Lancaster, Pa.), 200 freestyle and 200 butterfly, and Aubra Thomas (Fr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) in both breaststroke events. Windstein was named the Patriot League Swimmer of the Week following her efforts last Saturday.

George Mason, winners of the 2003 Colonial Athletic Association championship, has yet to compete in a dual meet this season. The Patriots also concluded the 2003 dual-meet season with a 7-1 record, with one of the wins being a 165.5-134.5 victory over Navy in Fairfax. Five George Mason swimmers and divers who combined for eight individual event victories over Navy in last year's meet return for the Patriots this season, including Christy Anderson who won the 200 individual medley and both breaststroke events. The Mids picked up victories last season against the Patriots from Windstein, 200 and 500 freestyle, Allison Moon (Sr., Bradenton, Fla.), 100 freestyle, and Tori Throckmorton (Jr., Ann Arbor, Mich.), 100 butterfly.

"George Mason is a very talented and veteran team," said Navy head coach Dick Purdy. "Friday will be a very close meet and I expect team depth to have a big impact on the final score. Every race will mean something."
