Three Mids Named to All-League Team in Swimming

Navy's Jenn Windstein, Tori Throckmorton and Allison Moon were named to the All-Patriot League Women's Swimming Team, it was announced recently by the league office.

The team is comprised of the top-18 competitors at the meet, which was held Feb. 20-22 in Lewisburg, Pa. Swimmers and divers who won individual events were automatically placed on the team, with the remaining spots filled by those totaling the most points during the championship. Windstein and Throckmorton were placed on the team by winning individual events, while Moon totaled 40 points to earn a spot on the team.

Navy placed second in the championship with 575 points, finishing behind host and meet-champion Bucknell with 812.5 points. The Midshipmen have totaled eight-first place and two second-place finishes in its 12 years in the Patriot League.

Windstein (Fr., Lancaster, Pa.) won a trio of events and set numerous records on her way to being named the Patriot League Swimmer of the Meet. She set a new Navy, Patriot League, Patriot League Meet and Kinney Pool record of 4:54.89 in winning the 500 freestyle, set a new school, league, league meet and pool record of 16:55.03 in winning the 1,650 freestyle, and set a new Kinney Pool record of 2:05.28 in winning the 200 butterfly. Windstein joins Kelly Kinsela (1993), Heidi Fearon (1994, '96), Julia Mason (1995, '96), and Melissa Hawley (1999, 2002) as Mids who have been received the swimmer of the meet accolade.

Throckmorton (So., Ann Arbor, Mich.) won the league's 100 butterfly final for the second-straight year, recording a 55.91 to win the event in a new Navy, Patriot League, Patriot League Meet and Kinney Pool standard. She also placed second in the 100 backstroke with a Navy-record time of 57.63, and second in the 50 freestyle with a Navy-record time of 23.52.

Moon (Jr., Bradenton, Fla.), who earned a spot on the all-league team for the second-straight year, placed fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.10), fifth in the 50 freestyle (24.45) and eighth in the 100 freestyle (53.35).

Although no points were awarded towards selection of the all-league team, Navy's 400 freestyle relay team also won its event at the championship. The team of Throckmorton, Moon, Mandy Minikus (Fr., Raleigh, N.C.) and Katie Costello (Sr., Lynbrook, N.Y.) won the title in a time of 3:29.85, just 15-hundreths of a second behind the Navy and Patriot League record set at the 2002 championship. For Moon and Costello it was their fifth career league relay title, while Throckmorton was a part of her second relay championship foursome.
