Navy in Third Place With One Day Left
Links associated with this release: HAMILTON, N.Y.. - After starting day two of the Patriot League Women's Swimming and Diving Championship in fourth place, the Navy swimming team finished Friday in third place, less than nine points out of first place. With one day left in the three-day competition, Navy has totaled 405 points and trails first-place Lehigh with 413.5 points and second-place Army with 408. Navy started Friday's finals with a fourth-place showing in the 200 medley relay. Katie Ball, Amy Jones, B.J. Matlock and Erin Emery completed the race with a time of 1:50.43. In the first individual event of the day, Melissa Hawley placed second in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:30.30. A pair of Midshipmen reached the finals of the 100 butterfly, with Matlock placing second with a time of 58.68 and Heather Williams placing seventh with a clocking of 1:00.13. Erin Emery followed by winning her second event of the championships, the 200 freestyle. Emery, who set a new pool record on Thursday in winning the 500 freestyle, again set a new pool standard in the 200 with a time of 1:53.99. It was Emery's second-consecutive league championship in the event. Katie Costello finished fifth in the 200 freestyle with a 1:56.36, while Kate Windstein placed eighth with a time of 1:58.20. Two Mids reached the finals of both the 100 breaststroke and the 100 backstroke. In the breaststroke, Allison Moon placed fifth with a time of 1:08.49, while Jones placed eighth with a 1:09.66. In the backstroke, Ball was the top finisher for Navy with a sixth-place time of 1:00.19, with Julie Dunnigan finishing two places back with a 1:02.20. Navy closed day two by setting a new pool record in winning the 800 freestyle relay. The team of Hawley, Moon, Costello and Emery won the event for the third-straight year with a time of 7:45.44. In the diving competitions, Megan Barnett placed second in the three meter with a score of 406.75 and third in the one meter with a score of 215.65.
