Navy Midfielder Carmen Myers Named Patriot League Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week

Freshman Carmen Myers produced a goal and two assists last week to earn Patriot League Women's Soccer Rookie-of-the-Week recognition.

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - After providing a goal or an assist in all three of the Mids' games last week, Navy freshman midfielder Carmen Myers (Woodbridge, Va.) has been named the Patriot League Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week as presented by Brine. It marks the second-consecutive week a Navy player has garnered rookie-of-the-week kudos, as first-year midfielder Meggie Curran (Silver Spring, Md.) was awarded the honor last week after scoring a pair of goals, including the game winner against Lafayette.

Myers began the week by producing the game-winning goal in the Mids' 3-0 shutout over UMBC, punching in the ball on a second-chance opportunity off a corner kick. It marked her first game-winning goal of her young career. She followed up with assists in each of the next two games against conference foes Lehigh and Holy Cross. Her crossing pass to Stacy Finley (Alamo, Calif.) in the 84th minute was the spark to lead Navy to a come-from-behind win over the Mountain Hawks, while her assist to Curran in the 45th minute against the Crusaders put the game away for the Midshipmen.

Myers is Navy's fifth-leading scorer with 10 points on three goals and four assists. She is tied for 13th on the Mids' all-time freshman scoring list, and is 13th in goals and ninth in assists.

"Carmen has been a great addition to our team this year and has played a pivotal role for us," said Navy head coach Carin Gabarra. "She provides us with a lift coming in off the sideline and she has continued to progress throughout the year."

Navy returns to action Saturday when it plays host to Bucknell. Action is slated for 10 a.m. at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
