Navy's Meggie Curran Named Patriot League Rookie of the Week
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - With a pair of goals last week in games against league foes American and Lafayette, Navy freshman midfielder Meggie Curran (Silver Spring, Md.) has been named the Patriot League Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week as presented by Brine. It marks the first time a Navy player has been selected rookie of the week this year. Curran scored her goal against American in the 85th minute to knot the game and eventually send it into overtime. A game later, Curran scored the Mids' game winner in the 38th minute against the Leopards of Lafayette. For the year, Curran has produced 14 points on six goals and two assists and is Navy's third-leading scorer. It's the most points scored by a freshman since Navy all-time leading scorer Stacy Finley (Alamo, Calif.) posted 14 points on six goals and two assists her rookie campaign (2000). That same season, team captain Amelia Sheveland (Farmers Branch, Texas) scored 15 points on six goals and three assists. "Meggie changes the game when she steps on the field," said Navy assistant coach Rob Blanck. "She continues to get better and stronger as the year goes on." Navy returns to action Friday when it faces Lehigh on the road. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Bethlehem, Pa. G-o N-a-v-y
