  • Box Score

Freshman Meggie Curran scored the game-winning goal in the 38th minute to give the Mids their 11th-straight win over the Leopards.

EASTON, Pa. - A goal by Navy freshman midfielder Meggie Curran (Silver Spring, Md.) in the 38th minute gave Navy (11-3-1/3-1-0 PL) a 1-0 lead at half, while the Mids tacked on another two goals in the second half to produce a 3-0 shutout over Patriot League foe Lafayette (4-8-4/1-3-1 PL) Saturday evening in Easton. The win marked the 11th-straight win by the Mids over the Leopards in a series Navy leads, 11-0.

Navy gained the early advantage when junior midfielder Heather Thomas (Pismo Beach, Calif.) found Curran for the game's first goal and Curran's sixth strike of the year. While both teams got off four shots in the first half, it was the lone goal to make its way into the net for either team.

Twenty minutes into the second half, Navy added another score in a rather "heads-up" fashion. Curran sent the ball in on a corner kick which was headed by fellow rookie middie Carmen Myers (Woodbridge, Va.). The ball was next touched by starting defender Claire Henry (Bridgewater, Mass.) who headed the ball directly to the cross bar. As the ball ricocheted off the cross bar, senior captain Amelia Sheveland (Farmers Branch, Texas) was there to head the ball past Lafayette keeper Amy Kalista for Navy's second goal of the game and Sheveland's sixth of the year.

Freshman midfielder Molly Burd (Englewood, Colo.) scored her second goal of the season when defender Quinn Rinehart (Winter Garden, Fla.) served her the ball in the 79th minute.

For the game, Navy just edged out the Leopards in shots, 9-7, while Midshipman keeper Kim Bonafede (Burke, Va.) stopped five Lafayette shots on goal. Navy also was awarded a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The Midshipmen will have just one day off before playing at UMBC (5-5-0) Monday afternoon at 2 p.m.
