ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Led by Patriot League Rookie of the Week Iris Boivin (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Navy will take its three-game unbeaten streak into Albany, N.Y. this weekend where it will face Albany and Siena in the Governor's Cup. The Mids meet the host, Albany, Friday at 4 p.m., while battling Siena Sunday at 1 p.m.

Navy's unbeaten streak was kicked off last Friday when it defeated Georgia State, 3-0. The Mids battled Seton Hall to a 2-2 tied on Sunday afternoon and followed up with a 3-0 victory at Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday.

Boivin has produced a pair of goals and an assist over the last three games, including scoring the game winner against Georgia State. She is Navy's third-leading scorer and has already climbed the ladder to No. 15 on the Mids' freshman goal-scoring list with three.

Junior forward Meggie Curran (Silver Spring, Md.) has been nothing short of sensational in 2005 where she leads the Midshipmen with 14 points on four goals and six assists. She is coming off a two-goal, one-assist effort against Mount St. Mary's. Heading into the weekend, Curran stands tied for sixth on Navy's career goals list with 21, seventh in career points with 61 and she needs just one assist to join Amelia Sheveland (2000-03) as the 10th-place holder on the career assists list with 20.

"Meggie has been outstanding for us up top this year," said head coach Carin Gabarra who recorded her 150th-career victory last Friday against Georgia State. "She has learned when to playmake, when to distribute, and when to take on. This has really made her game more unpredictable and dangerous with the ball. She has more assists than goals, and this shows her unselfishness and ability to create goal-scoring chances for others, as well as herself. She can change the outcome of games based on her mentality. "

In addition to the firepower Curran provides, junior midfielder Molly Burd (Englewood, Colo.) has packed a powerful punch for the Mids this season. After missing the 2004 campaign with a broken foot, Burd has hit her stride this fall as Navy's second-leading scorer with three goals and a pair of assists.

"Molly has really stepped up this year and become a personality player," Gabarra pointed out. "Her playmaking abilities are adding a dangerous dimension to our attack, and she has also been committed to getting in the box herself. She is combining playmaking with chances of her own, and we have needed her to succeed offensively this season."

While Navy has found success this season, its weekend opponents are still looking for the right combination to enjoy the same satisfaction the Mids have. After turning in a 2-18 record a year ago, Albany looks to repeat the pattern in 2005 where it owns a 1-6-0 mark. The Great Danes dropped their first four games of the season before shutting out Siena, 2-0, on Labor Day. Since the win, Albany has been shut out 7-0 in combined losses to Fairleigh Dickinson (1-0) and Iona (6-0). Albany has also dropped contests this season to Patriot League foes Colgate (2-0) and Army (6-1).

Leading the Great Danes are sophomore forward Uju Ogbuawa and junior midfielder Jamie Dougherty who have each scored a pair of goals in seven starts. Sophomore midfielder Elana Maccou turned in the game-winning goal for Albany against Siena. Keepers Andrea Dunn and Ashley Neussle have split the duties between the pipes. Dunn has given up 15 goals (3.53 GAA), while making 42 saves (.737 Sv%), while Nuessle has allowed 11 goals (4.00 GAA) in 248 minutes and warded off 33 shots on goal (.750 Sv%)

Siena opened its season with an impressive 2-1 victory over defending Patriot League champion Colgate, but in the following game dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to Holy Cross who was winless in the Patriot League last season. Overall, the Saints own a 2-3-0 mark and are coming off a 2-0 loss to Stony Brook last Friday. Siena will battle Howard Friday before facing the Midshipmen Sunday afternoon.

Forwards Kristen Turner and Susie Blaisdell, along with midfielder Chelsea Maguire have each scored a pair of goals and added an assist this fall. Blaisdell, who has scored on two of her six shots on goal, has been credited with both game-winners. The Saints are anchored in goal by freshman Patti Carroll who has given up six shots on goal, while turning in an 80.6 save percentage with 25 saves to her credit.
