Men Win N-Star, Women Lose Close Meet against Army in Cross Country Saturday
Riding the legs of its top two runners this season, the Navy men's cross country team secured its sixth-consecutive N-Star over rival Army in the annual dual meet Saturday morning. Junior Eric Eckstrand (Wilmington, Del.) finished as the top Navy runner for the second consecutive meet by winning the meet today with a time of 24:36.11. Team captain and senior Aaron Lanzel (Sugar Grove, Pa.) ran with Eckstrand throughout the race to finish second with a time of 24:39.83. "Aaron and I ran the race together," said Eckstrand. "We really pushed each other to do well. The team right now is running really well. We had our top-five guys finish near the 25-minute mark, which sends a message to our competition. To sweep Army is just incredible. It feels really good." Navy rounded out the top-five positions with senior Brian Harrington ( San Jose, Calif.) in third place with a time of 24:57.17, senior Daniel Christensen (Medford, N.J.) in fourth place with a time of 25:03.70 and sophomore Ben Glaser (Des Moines, Iowa) in fifth place with a time of 25:07.50. "Eckstrand is a force to be reckoned with in the future," said Navy head coach Al Cantello . "Christensen may have shown the potential to be our fifth runner as he always has late-season potential." Army's top runner was sophomore David Welch in sixth place with a time of 25:17.82. On the women's side, the Mids (0-2) dropped a close matchup to Army, 26-29.
