Navy Selected Second in Patriot League Preseason Men's Cross Country Poll - CENTER VALLEY, PA. - After finishing second at the Patriot League Championships in each of its first two seasons in the league, the Navy men's cross country team has been picked to finish second in the Patriot League preseason poll released on Wednesday afternoon by the league office.

The Midshipmen received 80 points and two first-place votes from the league's coaches and sports information directors. American, the winner of the past three Patriot League Championships, received 13 first-place votes and 97 points in being named this year's preseason favorite. Army grabbed the other first-place vote and 79 points to rank third. Rounding out the Patriot League are Lehigh (64 points), Bucknell (45 points), Colgate (42 points), Lafayette (27 points) and Holy Cross (14 points).

Navy will look to its three seniors, captain Ty Rose (Germantown, Tenn.), Joshua Sink (Welcome, N.C.) and Maksudul Ali (Clarksburg, Md.) to guide the way this season. Rose, Patriot League Runner of the Week for September 27, 2004, led all Navy finishers in three meets last season. The senior captain finished third overall in the Navy Invitational, while leading the Midshipmen at the Iona Invitational and Great American Festival last season.

Sink, a second-team All-Patriot League runner in 2004, crossed the finish line 10th of 85 runners in the league championship. He also led all Mids competitors with a 25:08.17 finish in Navy's N-Star victory over Army last season. Ali boasted five top-20 finishes during his junior campaign, highlighted by a first-place finish at the Mount St. Mary's Invitational.

Navy will commence its 2005 season this Saturday, September 3 at the Sea Gull Opener in Salisbury, Md. at 10 a.m.
