Conley Places Second at Midlands Wrestling Tournament
Links associated with this release: SKOKIE, Ill. - Navy's Mark Conley (Sr./Exton, Pa.) wrestled to a second-place finish in the 141-pound weight class at the prestigious Midlands Wrestling Tournament Sunday evening. Seeded second, Conley scored a narrow 1-0 victory over Cedric Haymon from Cal-Poly in the semifinals. In the championship match of the 141-pound weight class, Conley dropped an 11-8 decision to top-seeded Eric Larkin from Arizona State. Larkin scored two takedowns in the opening period and two more in the second stanza to take an 8-4 lead. However, Conley fought back in the final period, scoring two takedowns to narrow Larkin's lead. Conley was unable to get any closer, dropping just his second match of the season (21-2). The Mids finished 16th overall in the team standings with 25 points, the third-highest team score from the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA). Pennsylvania (fourth/78.5) and Cornell (11th/38.5) were the only teams from the EIWA to finish higher than Navy. Iowa won the team competition with 151 points followed by Iowa State in second (126.5) and Minnesota in third (110.5). Navy returns to the mat Saturday when the Mids travel to Dallas, Texas to compete in the Lonestar Duals. Navy opens against Northwestern at 11:15 a.m. The Mids will face third-ranked Oklahoma at 1:30 p.m. and 22nd-ranked Wisconsin at 6:15 p.m.
