ALBANY, N.Y.-Navy senior captain Mark Conely (Exton, Pa.) finished sixth at the NCAA Wrestling Championship at 141 pounds after losing his two matches Saturday afternoon in the consolation bracket. Conley, who lost to eventual national champion Aaron Holker of Iowa State last night when Holker gained a reversal with one second left, lost his first match on Saturday to Cedric Haymon of Cal Poly, 6-5, when Haymon scored with one second remaining. Conley lost the fifth place match to Nate Parker of Oklahoma, 7-5.

Despite the two losses, Conley is still an All-American for the second consecutive year and is Navy's first two-time All-American since John Reich in 1980 and 1982.

Junior Steve Kovach (Parkersburg, Pa.) just missed being an All-American last night, losing to Paul Hynek of Northern Iowa, 4-2, in a match that decided All-American status.

As a team, Navy finished 36th with 11.5 points. Minnesota won the national championship with 126.5 points, while Iowa State placed second (104.0) and Oklahoma was third (101.5).

"It was an unbelievable weekend," said Navy head wrestling coach Bruce Burnett. "Last night was a tough night because I really thought Holker scored after the buzzer sounded. Today, Mark lost two tough matches but he has nothing to be ashamed of. I always tell Mark it is not whether he wins or lose, but if he puts forth the maximum effort and he most certainly did. I am extra proud of the way he and Steve wrestled this weekend and they raised some eyebrows of people. We will look back at Mark and point to him as the guy who got things started for us."
