BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Navy wrestling team dropped a 25-10 decision to the 11th-ranked Lehigh Mountain Hawks before a crowd of 1,380 in Grace Hall Friday evening.

"I am proud of the way our guys competed tonight," Navy head coach Bruce Burnett said. "Some of the scores looked like we got beat bad but those matches were closer than the score indicates. We made some mistakes and got caught on our backs a couple times that made it look a lot worse. We will take this match and learn from it. The guys wrestled as good if not better than we did against Maryland. Mark Conley (Sr./Exton, Pa.) and Steve Kovach (Jr./Parkesburg, Pa.) continue to lead the way again. We just have to keep getting better and the mistakes we made need to get corrected."

Navy (6-4) dropped the first-four matches beginning with the 165-pound weight class. Luke Lazzo (Jr./Rochester Hills, Mich.) fell to fourth-ranked Chris Vitale, 15-3, however Lazzo gave up a handful of points in the bout.

Lehigh's Brad Dillon scored an 8-4 decision over Andrew Hemminger (So./Annapolis, Md.) in the 174-pound weight class, while Travis Manion (So./Doylestown, Pa.) battled hard for the Mids in the 184-pound weight class despite dropping a 9-3 decision to Rob Rohn, ranked eighth nationally.

Senior Mike Bigrigg (Santa Ana, Calif.) battled second-ranked Jon Trenge for seven-solid minutes but fell by a score of 4-0 in the 197-pound weight class.

Navy got on the board in the fifth match of the evening when Kovach outlasted Shawn Laughlin in the heavyweight division, 3-2.

The shortest match came in the 125-pound weight class when Lehigh's 20th-ranked Mario Stuart pinned Sam Gray (Essex, Vt.) in just 27 seconds. Mike Simon (Jr./North Canton, Ohio) followed with a 9-3 loss to Dan Hyman in the 133-pound weight class.

Ranked-third nationally in the 141-pound weight class, Conley came out and scored a convincing major decision against Lehigh's Tristan Boyd.

Navy freshman Pat Lukanich (LaGrange, Ill.) followed Conley with a 4-2 win over Troy Minarovic in the 149-pound weight class, who was filling in for an injured Mike Pirozzola, ranked 17th nationally.

In the final match, Warren Stout defeated Navy's Michael Carbonaro (So./Blairstown, N.J.), 7-2, in the 157-pound weight class.

Navy returns to action tomorrow when the Mids take on Sacred Heart at 4 p.m. and Drexel at 6 p.m. at North Penn High School in Lansdale, Pa.
