Water Polo Hosts League Games This Weekend

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy water polo squad (9-9 overall) returns home for the first time in over a month as it hosts a pair of league foes on Saturday at MacDonough Hall. The Mids will battle Bucknell at 11:00 a.m., before taking on Salem International at 8:00 p.m. The games are just two of several league games that will be taking place this weekend in Annapolis.
The Mids and Bucknell have met once this season, coming back on Sept. 25, at the ECAC Tournament in Boston. In that game, Navy held a 5-3 halftime lead, but the Bison rallied for an 8-6 victory. Bucknell enters the game ranked 20th in the latest CWPA national poll.
Salem International will bring an international flavor to Annapolis as 10 of its players are from overseas, bringing a wealth of experience to the pool. The Mids won the only earlier meeting between the two teams, back on Sept. 15, with a 15-9 triumph.
These are big league games, said head coach Michael Schofield. We are tied with Bucknell for second in our region and Salem International is two games back. Having lost to Bucknell shows us that they are a very good team. If we can play with more energy and be smarter than we were the last time out, we should be in good shape. Salem has a good squad as well and are very well-seasoned and have a lot of experience. It will be great to get home and we want to send the seniors out on a high note.
Navy is looking to get back into the win column after a tough weekend in Northern California two weeks ago. The Mids went 1-3, being defeated by three teams ranked in the top 20. Jordan Gentry (San Antonio, Texas) leads the Mids with 41 goals on the season, while Alex Ratcliffe (Coronado, Calif.) leads the team with 52 points (37 g, 15 a).
