Ex-Mid Competes At U.S. Open, Race To Air On ESPN2

Annapolis, Md. - Ensign Aaron Lanzel, a 2003 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, continued his push towards qualifying for the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece by placing second among Americans in the 1500-meter run at the Payton Jordan U.S. Open at Stanford this past weekend.
Lanzel, who was sixth overall, lowered his personal-best time in the distance by a second to 3:40.83. Kenya's Laban Rotich won the race with a mark of 3:36.32, while Charlie Gruber of the U.S. was second with a time of 3:38.42.
Portions of the U.S. Open, including the 1,500-meter run, are scheduled to be aired tonight at 9 p.m. (EST) on ESPN2.
