Links associated with this release: The Navy men's and women's track & field teams will travel to Bethlehem, Pa., Friday and Saturday to compete in the Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championship, hosted by Lehigh. Head coach Stephen Cooksey's men's team (6-1 dual-meet record) is coming off a strong performance at last weekend's Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia. The distance medley relay team of Erik Schmidt (So./Spokane, Wash.), Eric Porter (So./Brookeville, Md.), Doug Kay (Sr./Amherst, Va.) and Aaron Lanzel (Jr./Sugar Grove, Pa.) finished amongst the nation's elite programs with its fifth-place time of 9:42.98. Outdoor track captain Tom Delaney, a Philadelphia native, placed seventh in the pole vault in his return trip to the City of Brotherly Love. The women's team (9-2 dual-meet record) also had some strong performances at Franklin Field. Junior Amanda Hasenauer (Sebastian, Fla.) recorded a seventh-place finish in the women's pole vault championship (11'07.25") to lead the Mids, while the 4x400m relay team of Kacee Jossis (So./Boise, Idaho), Eva Tukarski (Fr./Crofton, Md.), Jessica Crocker (Sr./White Lake, Mich.), and Tineisha Davis (Fr./Madisonville, Ky.) placed third in its preliminary heat with a time of 3:49.35. Davis ran a sub-56-second anchor leg for Navy, placing the squad as the first alternate for the weekend's ECAC relay championship. Neither team competed in the 2001 Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championships. In this past winter's indoor championship, the men's squad placed sixth in the eight-team field with a total of 54 points. Leading the way for the Mids was Keeson Jurick (Fr./Houston, Texas). He placed second in his first league meet in the triple jump with a mark of 13.43 meters. Navy's distance medley relay team's time of 10:20 was good for third place, while Sina Ekundayo (So./Randallstown, Md.) and Travis Rainey (Fr./Lee's Summit, Mo.) placed third (7.74) and fourth (7.95) in the 55m hurdles, respectively. On the women's side, head coach Carla Criste's Navy team turned in a third-place finish. Hasenauer set a school and meet record and was named the Field Performer of the Meet after she won the pole vault with her leap of 12'10". Davis also set Navy and league meet marks by winning the 400m dash (55.34). |
